FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE
Most
graduate students are granted teaching fellowships that provide a maximum
annual stipend and a tuition waiver. In addition, the Chemistry Department
will provide a basic health insurance plan to students who are not otherwise
covered by a policy.
A limited
number of students receive Henry Eyring Research Fellowships to do research
in the summer preceding their first year of graduate school. In addition,
a special fellowship in the amount of $1,000 is offered to particularly
outstanding graduate students. Funding for travel to scientific meetings
is also possible.
All
Ph.D students in good academic standing are guaranteed five years of financial
support, either as a Teaching Assistant or as a Research Assistant.
The
typical annual salary will be $19,500 beginning in Fall 2004.
For consideration
for admission to the University of Utah Department of Chemistry Graduate
Program, you must submit the following:
- A Completed
Application: You must first
submit an application to the Chemistry Department; you may submit either
via our Online Form or you may print
a copy of this year's PDF Application
to send via postal mail.
- Official Copies
of all Transcripts: You must request that all college-level institutions you have attended
send official transcripts to us at the address listed below, whether
or not a degree was awarded.
- Three Letters
of Recommendation: At least one letter of recommendation
should be from the college or university you most recently attended.
You may print the PDF
Letter of Recommendation Form to give to those who will submit them
to us by postal mail at the address listed below. Non-native English
speaking applicants should request that letters of recommendation contain
comments on their English speaking and writing abilities.
- Your GRE scores:
The GRE Scores must be sent by the testing organization to us at the
address listed below.
- TOEFL Scores:
This score is needed if you are not a US citizen and/or if your primary
language is not English. TSE scores are also recommended.
- Personal
Statement: Briefly describe your reasons for pursuing an advanced
degree in chemistry.

have elected to accept an offer made by the Department of Chemistry, you
must fill out and return the UU Graduate School application to the
Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office.
